  • March 24, 2022 - In this podcast, five Appalachian Lab (AL) graduate students discuss the difficulties women can face in pursuing scientific careers. Hosted by Kristi Moore, UMCES Digital Content Coordinator, listen to other AL graduate students in this panel which include MEES graduate students Stefenie Siemek, Tan Zou, and Claire Nemes as they share their experiences & challenges they face as women in the scientific field as well as the positive shift they see moving forward for women with a passion for science.

  • Faculty Focus: Dr. Rita Colwell is a Distinguished University Professor both at the University of Maryland College Park & at Johns Hopkins University. An internationally recognized expert on cholera and other infectious diseases, Colwell was the first woman to serve as director of NSF and was the first director in more than 25 years with training as a biologist.
