Job Announcement: Oyster Hatchery Position

KCB Oyster Holdings is located in Lottsburg, Virginia and produces oyster larvae and seed from December through September. This is a seasonal, full-time job.

This is a unique opportunity to commercially produce oysters and develop a research/breeding program to improve hatchery performance.

Primary responsibilities:

Brood stock management and maintenance
Algae culture
Spawning and larvae culture
Cultchless seed setting
Filtration maintenance

Basic qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a science related field
Good work ethic and self-motivated
Ability to work variable hours, including weekends in rotation
Ability to work independently and multi-task
Communicate effectively with other employees
Ability to perform record keeping and organize results

Preferred qualifications:

Prior hatchery knowledge
Ability to adaptively manage
Problem solving/troubleshooting
Ability to conduct research experiments
Interest in seawater chemistry and oyster breeding
