Assistant Professor of Geology - Environmental/aqueous geochemistry
New Tenure-track Assistant Professor of Geology position to begin fall 2014. We require a Ph.D. in Geosciences (preferred), or a related Ph.D. discipline and a M.S. in Geosciences. Expertise desired in environmental and aqueous geochemistry. A strong commitment to teaching, published research, and research with undergraduate students is essential. We seek an excellent teacher and researcher who will engage undergraduates at all levels in environmental and aqueous geochemistry courses/research, and also teach introductory geology courses (some with labs and/or large lectures), which are part of the general education program and the geology core. Courses typically involve lab/field experiences. The position requires a strong commitment to published research, proposal writing and submission, design and implementation of a new environmental emphasis, and service to the unit, college, university, and community. We are interested in creative teachers and researchers who complement existing faculty strengths. We also value experience outside academia. Opportunities exist to collaborate with researchers in the Annis Water Resources Institute.
The department currently consists of twelve faculty members, a lab supervisor, and about 100 majors in geology (B.S.), Earth science (B.S.), and geochemistry (B.S.). Several faculty members in the department also educate pre-service teachers in an integrated science degree (B.S.)
